FIFA WORLD CUP 2010 SOUTH AFRICA Individuals Score Glory Goals the Team Prevails

It so funny how everyone has their favorite player in the team and yet individual players, no matter how brilliant their skills on and off the ball; it is the team that wins. We expect so much from individual players that we forget that soccer is a team sport.

This was so evident in the England USA game. Yes, on paper it is assumed that England has the better skilled players but it is the team who can hold together that will be victorious. Look at the team effort of the South Koreans earlier today. I devoted a whole chapter in my book to the need for reframing and repositioning yourself in spite of your challenges and disadvantages. Marlee showed the graduating class the one’s “disability” is not a “dis” and should not define who you are and inhibit what you can do.

Marlee reminded the audience to reframe the odds as assets.

If we can all work together as a team the world can be a better place.

Only thirty two countries represented by thirty two teams are participating in the soccer world cup finals. The fellow country men and women back home are all rooting for the eleven players on the turf. In a sense we all win if our team wins.

Let us think team and put our group effort above our individual wants and needs. WE can. The team can. One individual scores the winning goal but it is the team that wins and gets the rewards.
