FIFA World Cup win will be a dream come true

Lionel Messi’s twin strikes helped Argentina thrash Paraguay and earn a FIFA World Cup berth. The striker will now need a lot more of these trademark shots if he wants to realize his dream of winning the 2014 World Cup for his side.

A title winning performance from Argentina is long over due with their last triumph coming in 1986, a year before Messi was even born! Now, at the helm of the national team, the 26 year old wants to reclaim the title, trophy and the glory. “I dream of winning the World Cup. We all do in Argentina. But there is still a long way to go,” he was quoted as saying after Tuesday’s match.

With reports of Barcelona asking Argentina Football Association to not play him in the remaining two qualifiers doing the rounds, Messi said that his heart still wants to play for the national side. “I don’t know anything about that. I always want to play for Argentina.”

Messi has played two World Cup tournaments. In 2006, he became Argentina’s youngest ever to feature in the tournament and while his performances have been raved about, Messi has just one goal against Serbia and Montenegro in 2006 to his name from the two editions.

Come 2014, Messi will be looking to re write history books and change his personal record as well when he fights to take his team quarterfinalists from the last FIFA World Cup all the way.
