The US football NT has got an excellent coach in Jurgen Klinsmann. He is very adept tactically and also knows how to develop the players. Another good thing is that he very pro youth, so a lot of youth players will be selected to play in friendlies and thus, gain valuable international experience. There won be a problem of having fringe players without any international experience (as was the case under Bob Bradley).

Since Klinsmann has taken the reins of the NT, the team has been performing pretty well. They currently have a 11 game winning streak since June 2 winning 4 3 against Germany which is a pretty impressive victory albeit Germany were playing with their second string players (but they have a lot of quality). They scored 3+ goals in 5 games and have conceded only 9 goals.

More recently, USA won the Gold Cup winning every single game played. The important thing to note here is that US fielded mostly fringe players along with a few experienced players. They scored 20 goals and conceded just 6 in the entire tournament.

Judging by these performances and results, I would say US have a very good chance of going pretty far in the WC (unless luck plays them a hard hand and they get involved in a group of death).
